I came across this email sent to Federation CJA (Combined Jewish Appeal) members. In it, president David J. Cape accuses the PQ's Bernard Drainville of intolerance, and possibly anti-Semitism (it's not clear in the letter), for expressing his concern over parking exemptions in CDN-NDG that had borough workers covering up 'no parking' signs during Shavuot this week.

Now, I'm the first to point out blatantly intolerant and sometimes xenophobic PQ rhetoric. But this is hardly an example of that. At no time did Drainville say anything remotely racist against the Jewish community. I'm not a fan of the guy by any means, but some perspective is urgently needed here.

I echo his concerns on having city workers, paid for by your already high taxes, wasting their time covering up parking signs because a minority of Montreal Jews feel they can't move their cars during Shavuot. I stress a minority of ...
