CJAD's Michael Farber, lead hockey writer for Sports Illustrated, informed CJAD listeners this morning that he will be taking a medical leave of absence.

Michael says he hopes to be back in the saddle in time for the Stanley Cup Final.

Farber, honored by the Hockey Hall of Fame and a member of the hall's selection committee, has been a contributor to the CJAD Morning Show for 20 years, this month.

We encourage you to leave your messages of support for Michael.

Wishing Michael the very very best in his recovery, I'm pulling for him. One of the most sensible, analytic, and downright "RIGHT" voices of hockey I've ever followed. Love you Mike!!

Hello, If possible could you please send along this message to Michael Farber wishing him and his family the very best in light of the recent news concerning his health. I have always appreciated Michael comments with regard to the world of sports and just wanted him to know that there are many Montreal’s that are in his corner and hope to see him back at work as soon as possible. My very best regards, Steve Laskie,

I was saddened when I heard the news about Michael Farber, but I'm optimistic that he'll make a full recovery. I've been reading his work since the 1980s when he was at The Gazette, and it was with great pride that I watched him ascend to the heights of the sports journalism profession. Mend up, and hope to see you back soon!

I was listening to the radio this morning and almost started crying when I heard your sad news. Had to compose myself as my two young sons were in the car. Be brave, Michael, I love listening to you and have been reading your articles even before you joined SI.

You can't begin to imagine how many people were stunned by your news this morning, and sat in complete silence listening to your every word. We will all be praying for you, as we wait to hear you, once again, on CJAD. We always looked forward to your insightful comments every morning on CJAD, hoping to hear that OUR views matched YOURS. As one of the well wishers wrote, "One of the most sensible, analytical and downright "RIGHT" voices", which sums it up perfectly. Stay strong, knowing that there are many, many people in Montreal and elsewhere who are in your corner to stay.

Like many others, I've never met Michael Farber, but like these many others, I've come to know him thru his numerous interventions on CJAD, I really enjoy his comments, I appreciate his expertise, opinion and professionalism. I sincerely wish him a full and speedy recovery.

Michael, in a world of so-called "all-talk, no action" your work has always been an example of thoughtful, emotional, witty action through the power of words. The power of your thoughts, the power of the mind. You have always been an inspiration to me, the reason I always wanted to be a sportwriter ever since I realized my street-hockey "career" outside my house in Lachine wouldn't get me to the NHL. I hope you feel the strength and support of all your fans, your listeners, your readers and a struggling middle-aged goalie who never dreamed that one day he'd so blessed to consider you friend and colleague. Hockey needs your voice and your thoughts and your reason and your wit more than ever. Get well soon.

Michael, I've been reading your work going back many years to your days with The Gazette. I've always enjoyed your points of view and your insight. You often look at a story from angles many people never consider. Whether it's hockey or baseball or football, your depth of knowledge and passion have been evident for years. My family and I wish you a speedy recovery and look forward to hearing you again on the air.
