Habs booed off Bell Centre ice...again
Not only could it have been worse. It was worse. But the NHL pre-season "mercy rule" let the Habs settle for a 4-0 defeat when the reality is ex-Hab Tom Pyatt scored in the final minute to make it 5-0.
Areas of concern: Brendan Gallagher's star faded. It is clear that the junior prospect should go back to the Western Hockey League and Team Canada at the World Juniors.
The PP failed to connect, wasting a 5-on-3 opportunity as well. Tomas Plekanec working the point on the 1st unit didn't provide any spark.
Andrei Kostitsyn was a -3. Alexei Yemelin racked up 5 hits but at times was beaten with speed.
PK Subban was a -2 but provided thrilling end-to-end rushes and the most amusing moment of the nite when the talkative defenseman appeared to be totally ignored by Vincent Lecavalier throughout a long monologue.
The Canadiens have dropped to 1-6 in pre-season. The only silver linings:
Chris Campoli and Josh Gorges were steady. Gorges' surgically repaired knee survived a painful collision and fall in the Canadiens' zone. Gorges admitted after the game he was relieved that his knee held up through the powerful torque he felt.
Andrei Markov Update: he meets with medical experts about his knee rehab. Perhaps not coincidentally, agent Don Meehan was at Thursday night's game. Meehan says he's encouraged by Yemelin's play.
