Spacek traded to Carolina for Tomas Kaberle; Gionta misses trip
The struggling Canadiens reached out to a team that's struggling even more for some blue-line help.
They traded Jaroslav Spacek to Kirk Muller's Carolina Hurricanes in return for Tomas Kaberle.
The 33-year-old Kaberle has been in the NHL since 1999, with spells in Toronto and Boston before signing a three-year contract with Carolina worth $12.75 million this past off-season. He was part of last year's Stanley Cup-winning team in Boston.
So far this season with Carolina, he has 9 assists in 29 games, and has a plus-minus of -12.
Also today, Frederic St Denis was sent to Hamilton. Chris Campoli has been cleared to play but it's not clear whether or not he'll be in the line-up tomorrow afternoon in New Jersey. Brian Gionta won't play after suffering a lower-body injury last night during the shoot-out loss to the Canucks.
Scott Gomez has been out since November 25th. He practiced today with the team for the first time since then but hasn't been cleared for contact.
