Gionta undergoes bicep surgery
The Canadiens have announced that Brian Gionta has undergone successful surgery for a torn bicep and will be out of the lineup indefinitely. The operation was performed earlier today here in Montreal.
The announcement late this evening fueled speculation that Gionta could be done for the season.
Gionta suffered the injury with about seven minutes to play in last night's 3-0 loss to the Blues at the Bell Centre. After the game, head coach Randy Cunneyworth said Gionta played one shift after suffering the injury, before being forced out of the game, After taking part in one final rush up the ice, Gionta made the walk to the dressing room, but not before he hurled his stick in frustration.
The Canadiens' captain had just returned to action Saturday night against Tampa after sitting out 11 games with a lower body injury.
