Morgan: Les inglorieux
Quick quiz. Since the NHL moved to an 80-game regular season schedule, in 1974-'75, what's the fewest number of wins the Canadiens have put up in one year?
Don't bother googling it. The answer is 28. That was in 2000-'01, in an 82-game schedule.
So here's another question. Will the Canadiens manage to win fewer games this season? They just might.
After their most recent loss, to the Capitals, the Habs have 17 wins through 46 games. They have 36 games left. So they'd have to win 12 of their final 36 games to avoid matching the debacle that was the 2000-'01 season.
Here's another question. Do the Canadiens have what it takes just to win a third of their remaining games this season?
After what we've seen so far, I'm not holding my breath.
Last question. Do you still realistically expect the Habs to make the playoffs this year?
