Kirk Muller: On what could have been
There were a lot of "what ifs" thrown at former Habs' assistant coach Kirk Muller today after his Carolina Hurricanes wrapped up a noon-hour skate at the Bell Centre ahead of tomorrow night's game against the Canadiens.
Muller didn't want to go near the question of whether the coach of the Canadiens needs to be French speaking, or should be the best candidate available, regardless of the language he speaks.
"It's not my area," said Muller. "It's a tough one for me to answer. I do know that Randy is doing a good job right now. It's tough for him, but he's doing a good job."
Next question to Kirk: Would it have been easier for him to take over behind the bench in Montreal, as a former Captain of the Canadiens and a fan favourite, than someone like Randy Cunneyworth?
"We'll never know, I guess," said Muller. "I don't know. The timing wasn't there. I've moved on. I'm in Carolina and I'm excited about it."
Muller said he never really got nervous as a player, even during the Stanley Cup Finals. But he assumed he'll probably be a little nervous when he steps behind visitors bench tomorrow night.
