McGuire, Brisebois still on Habs' shortlist
Bob Gainey's former "capologist" Julien Brisebois and popular tv broadcaster Pierre McGuire are believed to have survive the first cutdown in the bid to become Canadiens' GM.
Brisebois was given permission by Steve Yzerman's Tampa Bay Lightning to talk with the Habs. Brisebois was once Bob Gainey's right-hand man on contracts and GM of the Hamilton Bulldogs. He currently is assistant GM to Yzerman (who at one time would have loved consideration for the job himself).
McGuire, well-schooled under Scotty Bowman as an NHL coach, recently won the voting by an overwhelming margin among CJAD listeners as the best man for the GM job. He's a former CJAD and TSN broadcaster.
Other candidates could include: Claude Loiselle of the Leafs, Francois Gigeure.
Patrick Roy or Jacques Lemaire? Only time will tell.
It is believed neither McGuire nor Brisebois would favor the hiring of Patrick Roy as head coach.
CJAD and Sports Illustrated's Michael Farber has the latest on the inside track.
