Morgan: Give Roy a chance

Now that Bob Hartley has been introduced as the new head coach of the Calgary Flames, there's more speculation that Patrick Roy could land the head coching job in Montreal.

I hope he gets it. Few athletes hate to lose as much as Roy and he's earned his coaching stripes in the QMJHL and he certainly knows what the hockey atmosphere in Montreal is all about.

Great former players don't always become great coaches but Roy's 'Q' team has been a winner and Carey Price could no doubt learn a thing or two from the Hall of Famer.

No coach comes with a guarantee of success. But I've always been a fan of Roy's passion.

And I'm aware that some fans feel he's too much of a hot-head. But show me any coach who doesn't have a temper. Even Scotty Bowman had his moments.

No way !! We need someone with at least a TINY bit of class ... unlike Roy who has absolutely none - not even in his "little" finger or toe !

The choice of the next coach should be made with the head not the heart. So much has been made about the language issue and if the fans really want a shot at winning something the choose the best guy for the job. The best available choice is still Crawford but the problem is his french may never be considered good enough by those who insist the coach be french speaking.
The other problem is we don't have a team that is good enough to win anything and a look at the present finals tells us we are a long way from having the players that can compete with these teams.
