On Alex Galchenyuk: "You guys are going to love him"
Jacques Beaulieu says it was a great feeling to watch the Montreal Canadiens select Alex Galchenyuk as the number three overall pick in the opening round of the NHL Entry Draft.
Beaulieu is the head coach and general manager of Alex's junior team, the Sarnia Sting. He joined me this morning from Pittsburgh on Dave's World.
"Alex is a pretty special kid," said Beaulieu. "We're very proud of him and what he's accomplished so far in his junior career. If he would have played all year he would have pushed alot of people to go first overall, along with Nail (Yakupov). Montreal is real, real lucky to have a young man like this playing for them in the near future."
Beaulieu said Alex was very focussed on his rehab after tearing up his ACL and came back four and-one-half months after an injury that usually takes six months to heal.
"He was very dedicated to his rehab and did all of the things he had to do to come back in our lineup in the playoffs to try and help our team win. You guys are going to love him."
Jacques is Nathan Beaulieu's dad and draft-day yesterday took him back to draft day one year ago in Minnesota, when the Canadiens made Nathan Beaulieu their first-round pick, 17th overall.
"It made me think of when Nathan put that jersey on. It's a very proud moment for all the families and the kids and especially to be drafted to Montreal. It's unbelievable and it's a feeling we'll never forget."
