The Canadiens have signed hard-luck, gritty forward Ryan White to a one-year deal worth $687,500.

White spent the last month in Montreal.  I caught up to him at the Winnipeg airport as he was making his way back to his off-season home in Brandon, Manitoba.

"It feels great," said White. "I'm excited to be back with the Montreal Canadiens.  It's another opportunity to show what I can do."

White missed most of last season after suffering a sports hernia at training camp.  However, he was able to come back for the final 20 games of the season, chipping in with three assists.

"It was tough," said White. "It was definitely a learning year for me.  At the end of the season it was nice to get back and play."

White said on the mental side of things, the injury made him stronger as a person and a player and will make him a little hungrier on the ice.

"I want to have a good showing this year and play 80 games -- show everyone I can do it."

Meanwhile, the Canadiens have announced that 14 players have been invited to take part in phase two of development camp, Thurs.-Sat. at Brossard.

Centre Alex Galchenyuk will be among those on hand.  He was Montreal's first-round pick, third overall, in this month's NHL Entry Draft in Pittsburgh.

All on-ice sessions are open to the public.
