Gomez: can't get worse

Many Habs fans are writing him off for a lockout-shortened season, but Scott Gomez says he's ready for a comeback year under the Canadiens' new regime.

Can Gomez be happy as a 4th liner?

"I'll play defense," he suggests jokingly, though he goes on to admit he's spoken to new coach Michel Therrien about learning his role and making it work...or else.

"We all got a fresh start and no one more than me," Gomez says bluntly.

Despite a declining cap-hit that's reduced to $5-million for this season, Gomez remains a focal point of anger for fans.

"I don't even know if I got fans there," he says when I suggest his fans are worried about whether he can impress the new GM Marc Bergevin and stick around.
