Engblom still optimistic
Erik Cole thinks the NHL season will be completely wiped out, holding out no hope for even an abbreviated schedule. But former Habs defenseman and hockey analyst Brian Engblom does not agree.
Engblom tells CJAD Sports he's still holding out hope the sides will get together and hammer out a deal, although at this point he says, the NHL and the NHLPA are playing a game of chicken to see who blinks first.
The players' association has said on more than one occasion that negotiations could have continued without having to cancel any games. The NHL doesn't share that position. But Engblom says the league was ready to talk last winter. The problem was that Donald Fehr wasn't ready because he was still getting used to his position as the head of the union.
