Big test for young players
The Montreal Canadiens host an intra squad game tonight at the Bell Centre, giving young players basically their only chance to make an impression on management. 18 year-old Alex Galchenyk, the Habs top draft pick from June, has impressed teammates, coaches and fans this week in camp and says he's looking forward to making his Bell Centre debut.
“Really excited. I’ve never been there yet so i’m looking forward to it.
Coach Michel Therrien says tonight’s game will have big impact on who makes it and who doesn’t. And although some younger players have stood out so far in camp, Therrien says he won’t keep them if he doesn’t intend to play them
“If they stay here they have commitment from us that they’re going to play. If we think they’re going to be the 13th or 14th guy or 7th or 8th defenseman, there’s no reason to keep a young player here. This is our philosophy and these are things we’ll discuss after tonight’s game, and we’ll make decisions. But it’s crucial at young age that players need to play.”
