Game On! Almost

The Canadiens are back on the ice for the first time since early April 2012 when their last place season led to regime change and the lockout.   Many fans are quick to forgive.

But they wanted their message heard: "We want PK! We want PK!" echoed through the building in the final minutes.

During an extended shootout, the fans again voiced their hopes for the restricted free agent seeking the deal of a lifetime: "PK PK PK."

The Canadiens say 17,000 fans welcomed the Habs back to their home for an intra-squad game that is as close as they'll come to a pre-season game before the regular season opener Saturday against the Leafs.

Rene Bourque scored the first goal of the "Red vs White" scrimmage, with Max Pacioretty tying it on a perfect one-timer from David Desharnais.

Carey Price drew groans from the crowd after mishandling a puck in front of crease leading to an easy goal for Michael Blunden.  Michael Bournival also scored after sloppy work in front of Peter Budaj.

Brendan Gallagher had the first solid scoring chance of the game only to be stopped by Price.  Rookie hopeful Alex Galchenyuk made a good play out of his own zone leading to the initial goal by Bourque.

Earlier in the day GM Marc Bergevin cleared Scott Gomez through waivers meaning the buyout is a done deal.

The Canadiens appear to be no closer to signing PK Subban.  Agent Don Meehan refused to say if there had been any progress Thursday.
