Galchenyuk hopes to impress
The Montreal Canadiens are giving two rookies a chance to prove they belong in the NHL. The club set their 23 man roster this morning and it includes 20-year-old Brendan Gallagher and 18-year-old Alex Galchenyuk.
Gallagher knows it will be a battle to stay here, but he's excited for the challenge
“I’m sure they have a plan for me. My mindset is that i’m going to have to earn every ice time that I get. I’m perfectly fine with that and I actually enjoy it. It makes it tougher on me and it’s competition. That’s how you make a good team when the bottom guys are pushing the top guys for roles it makes everyone better and I think that’s how good teams become successful.”
Galchenyuk can play up to five NHL games this season and still be sent back to junior without using up a year on his entry-level contract. But he says he's trying not to think about his time frame to impress and wants to just make the most of his time here.
“I don’t want to be selfish and think I have to play good to stay here after five games. I want to play good each game to help the team win and not think about that five game thing”
