The Canadiens have announced that Max Pacioretty underwent an emergency appendectomy Saturday evening in Montreal. He’ll be out 3 to 4 weeks.

After the morning skate Saturday at Brossard, head coach Michel Therrien told the media that Pacioretty had been excused from the skate because he was running a fever.  Later in the evening the Habs announced that Pacioretty had undergone surgery.

In three games this season, the 24-year-old forward had registered four assists with a team-high 10 shots on goal.

Lars Eller was skating in Pacioretty's spot on the line with David Desharnies and Eric Cole today.  Therrien said he had already made the decision to insert Eller back into the lineup, even before he knew that Pacioretty was ailing.  Eller had been a healthy scratch the last two times out.

The Canadiens are back in action Sunday night when they play host to the New Jersey Devils in a 6pm start.
