Plek pops another, but Sens storm back 5-1
The Canadiens started in Ottawa the way they finished at the Bell Centre. Tomas Plekanec scored on the powerplay with assists for Markov and Diaz at 5:31 of the 1st period.
Just 7 seconds later Chris Neil and Brandon Prust would duke it out, already the second fight of the night. Ryan White and Zack Smith dropped the gloves after just 87 seconds of play.
The Senators tied the score against 2 minutes later against Peter Budaj, who made a series of key saves to prevent the Senators from grabbing the lead. Alex Galchenyuk was a -1, caught on the ice for a rare opposition goal at even-strength.
In the 2nd, Ottawa grabbed the lead for the first time in the game when Daniel Alfredsson scored seconds after the Sens rang the puck off the post and the crossbar.
Ottawa scored on both phases of a double-minor to Ryan White, when Alexei Emelin only partially blocked a shot from Zibanejad moments later.
The explosion continued with Chris Phillips blasting a shot for the 3rd goal in just over 3 minutes.
PK Subban joined Weber and Blunden as the healthy scratches, while Carey Price was given his first break of the season. Expect Price to play both games this Super Bowl weekend at the Bell Centre.
Colby Armstrong led all players with 3 hits in the 1st period.
The Senators did not have Sergei Gonchar in the lineup, but Guillaume Latendresse faced his former club.
