Therrien bites into Desharnais line
While Pacioretty practised with new linemates, the Leaf who bit him was awaiting his disciplinary hearing with the NHL.
Max Pacioretty has been pulled away from his steady linemates for most of the last 18 months---Erik Cole and David Desharnais---to join "The 2 Gally's" Gallagher and Galchenyuk on a trio that will debut against the Lightning Tuesday night in Florida.
Coach Therrien's moves come only 36 hours after the Leafs embarrassed the Canadiens 6-0, a romp during which Mikhail Grabovski took a chomp on Pacioretty's wrist to stop a "facewash" from behind by the Habs' forward.
"Yeah I'm relieving Prust of babysitting duties," Pacioretty joked after Monday morning practise in Brossard.
He said he hopes to set Galchenyuk for a goal on the rookie's birthday in Tampa.
Therrien took Galchenyuk to the easel board for a lengthy 1-on-1 lecture near the end of drills. He said Gallagher and Galchenyuk are ready for more responsibilities and the chemistry between Cole-Desharnais-Pacioretty "just wasn't there."
Cole is off to a sluggish start and sent out a text message to numerous teammates Sunday vowing that he'd play better and encouraging the team to break out of its 3-game losing streak.
