Price, Therrien healing 4-2 win in Carolina
Winning is the cure for an ailing coach and a slump-ridden goalie.
The Canadiens coach Michel Therrien was behind the bench despite missing practise for a second straight, as he battles a nasty bug.
Carey Price's cure for what was ailing him---large doses of rubber. He finished with 42 saves and a key stop on Eric Staal who was awarded a penalty shot in the 2nd when the Hurricanes were dominating.
The Canadiens used healthy doses of offense from unlikely sources: a career-best 3-point night for Brandon Prust and Josh Gorges.
Unfortunately after a healthy 1st Period, the Habs' play in the 2nd may have made him queezy.
Seconds after a failed Canadiens' powerplay, Brandon Prust scored from the goal mouth to give Montreal a 1-0 lead on the Hurricanes.
Prust was on the doorstep helping create space for Alex Galchenyuk nearby, but got to a loose puck first. Eller and Emelin earned the assists.
Yannick Webber returned to the Habs' lineup and to PP duty, but it was Josh Gorges who rushed up from the Hurricanes blueline to complete a pretty passing play from Prust for the Canadiens' 2nd goal of the opening period. PK Subban's long pass angled cross-ice from deep out of his own zone started the play.
Carey Price came up with a spectacular trapper hand save just past the midway mark of the 1st Period to protect the 2-0 lead. He wasn't busy early, but had 14 saves by the end of the period.
Subban carried the load in the 1st, racking up 10-minutes of icetime.
In the 2nd the Hurricanes dominated and tied the game on goals by Staal (with Price screened, beaten high on the trapper hand) and Bowman (beating Carey under his trapper). The shot advantage was dramatic: 21-5 Canes.
Price preserved the 2-2 tie with patient work to stop Eric Staal on a penalty shot. Staal came in wide down the left side before cutting in front of Price and moving back to the left before firing. Despite being deep in his crease, Carey waited out the Hurricanes' star and made the save.
Assistant captain Josh Gorges made a perfect pass to help set up Lars Eller for the go-ahead goal in the 3rd with Brandon Prust also picking up a point on the play. That makes multi-point games for Gorges, Eller and Prust (leading all Habs with 3).
Moments later PK Subban pounded a slapshot from the left point after Andrei Markov delivered the setup pass.
Michael Ryder was benched for a big chunk of the 3rd period.
Yannick Weber left the game due to a back injury and logged less than 8 minutes of icetime.
