It is a stat you may never have seen before, but in the NHL GM's world of the salary cap Points/$1-million may be a guage of building a championship team.   

Marc Bergevin has clearly helped the Habs go from worst to first, and players he's re-signed or decided to keep in the fold have outperformed even some of the NHL's biggest names.

PK Subban---9pts/$1-million (based on his actual $2-mill salary, not the cap-hit for this year).  Subban outperforming Crosby?

That's a better bang for the buck on the blueline than NHL defense scoring leader Chris Letang (7.4) and others at the top of the scoring charts like Timonen and Suter (6.3 and a mere 1.5 for the Wild's prized acquisition).

Among Canadiens forwards Michael Ryder may be the leading point-getter, but his 6.5 pts/$1-million rates below Max Pacioretty (a "12" before his big raise kicks in).

Tomas Plekanec, the highest-paid Habs forward right now is only a 3.6.

Stamkos is a 4.6, Getzlaf a 5, Marty St. Louis a 6 as well.

The biggest bang for the buck among NHL topscorers is Chris Kunitz at 9.6pts/$1-million.
