The Canadiens are clearly not afraid of commitment with one of their little big men David Desharnais.

No hometown discount for the $14-million dollar Man.  Desharnais wins a 4-year deal.

The Habs' undrafted centre who wound up being considered the club's #1 centre, because of the success of the line with Pacioretty and Erik Cole, is making only $950,000 (cap hit $850-K).

Early returns on the Canadiens poll at www.cjad.com suggest fans are expecting Marc Bergevin to get a hometown discount from Desharnais, who has 8 goals and 16 points this season, a pace that would set a career high in goals but not matching his points/game pace.

Bergevin has made cap-space for re-signing RFA's like Desharnais by trading Cole away for potential UFA Michael Ryder.  Gabriel Dumont and Ryan White are the other keynote Canadiens forwards who will become restricted free agents unless they too are offered extensions.
