Habs hopefuls hit the ice at rookie camp
The Canadiens’ rookie camp is underway in Brossard as 40 players hit the ice for the first time Friday morning.
One player to watch for this week is Zachary Fucale. The first goalie chosen in this year’s draft had a 45-5-3 record as he led Halifax to the Memorial Cup.
The 18-year-old Laval native says he's hoping to impress over the next week.
“I want to get closer to my goal. Obviously everyone here’s goal is to make the NHL so I want to get one step closer every day. Having a good performance today and tomorrow and for the rest of the camp will help me get closer to that goal.”
Justin Courtnall is another young player who could find himself a spot in the Canadiens lineup in the future. The 24- year-old played most of last season with the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL, but got called up for give games to the Providence Bruins in the AHL.
The son of former NHL forward Geoff Courtnall says he got a little advice from dad ahead of this week's camp.
“Just take one day at a time and learn everything each day and basically just relax and have fun.”
The guys will lace up for the first of three scrimmages tomorrow at 4 p.m.
