CEGEP student leader promises more protests this summer

While the protests continue this F1 weekend, the newly-minted head of the CEGEP students' federation is promising more of the same all summer.

Eliane Laberge, who took over the leadership of the FECQ from Leo Bureau-Blouin on June 1, is planning what she's calling a 'plan estival' for summertime student protests.

She says about a dozen separate demos are being planned for the week of the June 17 alone, culminating in a large demo on the 22nd, which Laberge says its a 'date that will become a tradition for large protests'.

Laberge also points out the aim of the protests is to make people aware of their cause, particularly as a new provincial election looms.

"Historically, students don't usually vote, and this is why we want to keep the protests alive the summer, so that Quebecers can keep the issue in mind."

Yet another delusional "Want to be." Ms. Laberge, if you want to be taken seriously why don't you concentrate on something original. Such as, why Quebec high schools have the highest drop-out rate in Canada? Why Quebec CEGEP students drop-out or become professional students? Protesting is yesterdays news. What have you gained from it, nothing! Repeating the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is the definition of, (INSANITY)! Not a good starting point for a new, "Want to be."
    See you at THE JAZZ.

Another reason why we do not need cegeps. In my day, we graduated from high school after grade 11 and then entered university. Cegeps only breed people like Eliane who have not grown up.

    IDIOTS
i'm fed up of these ridiculous protesters. if they don't want to pay for the service being offered by the government, don't use it. lets not go bankrupt like half of europe to please a few jackasses who have no clue about anything. the biggest problem is that school cant teach what they need to learn

Wow all this time i thought the students were protesting because they had no means to pay their tuition fees and it turns out they are loaded and can afford to take the summer off to play spoiled children on the streets of Montreal.

I guess they have not had time to read of the financial crisis facing the world outside of theirs. Maybe due to their tender age have not realized that they do not have to pay any fees at all, they can just go to work like many ordinary folks who contribute to their tuition fees now are already doing.

Work has now become very popular in the adult community for quite some years and you might want to consider it. Summer jobs are also available for those needing to make some money to pay for guess what - student fees.

Respect in life is earned and you will never gain any with this type of behavior. Expecting the ordinary working class people to pay for your education to a higher salary paying job is disgusting and shows how little you have learned in your education so far.
