The overpass that leads nowhere

The Dorval interchange project started in 2009, and initial projections estimated completion in 2012.

However, hurdles between Transport Quebec, Canadian National Rail, Canadian Pacific, Montreal's Transit Authority and the Marriott Hotel have slowed down construction plans.

Negotiations around the "right-of-way," a purchase dispute and court disputes have been brought to the table.

The expected deadline is now 2017, at the earliest.

Dorval mayor Edgar Rouleau has exercised patience with the Transport Ministry, but worries the project is giving his down and the province a bad image.

The construction zone is the gateway to the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport in Dorval.

I find it somewhat odd that the Transport Ministry did not clear up all of the issues involved in building the overpass BEFORE construction began. I've driven by that incomplete road countless times and I think it's an eyesore. The government's intentions are in the right place, but they need to put their money where their mouth is and finish what they started. As you said in your report, Dorval's mayor is worried this 'road to nowhere' is making his city and the province look bad, and rightfully so. The overpass is the gateway to an international airport and should be treated as such. Letting it languish while the details are ironed out makes Quebec and the Montreal area look a little bit silly, a problem that should be rectified as soon as possible.
