Quebec and Federal governments react to UN's Bill 78 slam

The Quebec and Federal governments are reacting to the U.N. human rights pronouncement on Quebec's Bill 78.

Quebec Justice Minister Jean-Marc Fournier says the U.N. High Cimmissioner for Human Rights failed to ask the better question about rights in Quebec.  Notably, the right of all students to go to their classes.

Fournier says Bill 78 was a last resort after attempts at negotiations and after many court injunctions to re-open CEGEPS and University faculties.  All to no avail.

The federal reaction to the U.N. dig: the Harper government defends Quebec's right to pass its own laws "in a democratic environment", and criticizes the U.N. High Commissioner for ignoring worse rights' abuses in Belarus, Sri Lanka and Iran.

Maybe the U.N. would like to comment on the eradication of Anglophone Quebecers by their own government. They've banned English, we're invisible on french TV, and they've systematically attacked the English educational system.

Where were they when Bill 101 was passed?

@Buddy Kaybay I agree with Buddy 100%.Racism,Discrimination,Banning of the English Language and others to preserve the French Language,Creating Hatred to other cultures,What happened to our country? Federal Government will not get involved,(cannot blame them),but someone should get involved or it could get out of hand or "Book Burning" will be next.

@Buddy Kaybay Oh the UN had a say on bill 101. But that's all they did was have a say. No one, not even the federal government did anything when that atrocity was passed. Worst of all it was the federal government, namely Chretien and Trudeau that laid the groundwork for laws like bill 101. How you ask? The notwithstanding clause. Folks we are ALL to blame for the language laws, some more than others obviously.
