A Montreal  police officer was severely injured overnight as she and her colleagues tried to break up a massive brawl in Montreal North.

Police officers responded to a call just after midnight for a confrontation involving as many as 20 people near a commercial building at the corner of Henri Bourassa and Drapeau.

Montreal police Constable Simon Delorme says police soon determined that an illegal gathering was taking place in the basement of the building.

The police officer was injured after police moved in and began making arrests.
She suffered head injuries but Delorme says her life is not in danger.

14 people were arrested.

I heard some news about the fight in which a police officer was hurt. I am sorry to hear that she was harmed and would like to point out something that really bothered me when I heard this news story. I understand there is a problem with youth today and it doesn’t seem to be an easy task to keep them from causing problems on the streets…… but there seems to still be some racial profiling with the police force and the young black youth. I heard the officer state it was a bunch of black youth causing the problem (and of course they always put in that they are gang related) but the color issue should not be brought into this. When it is a Caucasian youth group causing any problems I never hear their color or race brought into it. Why is it always used in the media to cause us to dislike people of color? Not all black youth are troublemakers but it seems that they are targeted constantly. These kids that caused harm to the officer are wrong no matter what color or background they come from and should be prosecuted for their crime. Color should never be an issue. We need to work on building the bridge between all our ethnicity and not segregating them with color. Thank you CJAD for not bringing race into the News Article. Shame on the Montreal police force for not trying harder in seeing the person and not the skin color first!

    Thanks…………..A concerned citizen
