Mascouche Mayor driven away by jeers
Mascouche Mayor Richard Marcotte did show up at tonight's council meeting surrounded by police.
He entered the council chambers amid boos from the crowd outside.
Inside, a packed crowd chanted angrily in French "Get out Marcotte" even as the Mayor was trying to call the council to order.
After a few minutes of trying to speak but unable to because of the loud and angry chants from the audience, Marcotte finally had to be escorted away by police.
By law, Marcotte only has to attend one council meeting every 90 days and this appearance, according to council, counts.
Angry citizens say they want Marcotte to step down.
The long-time Mayor faces fraud and corruption charges in connection with a province wide anti-corruption operation last April
