A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries to the head after being hit with a blunt object early this morning in Montreal North.

The victim is believed to be in her thirties.

Police spokesman Raphael Bergeron says the attack happened inside an apartment on Maurice-Duplessis near Matte.

"The suspect inflicted several wounds to the victim," he said. "She was rushed to the hospital. She was conscious at the time that she left the scene. We're still waiting for the results of her medical check at this point, but consider as serious injuries."

A man in his thirties was arrested on site.

A teenager and a witness who tried to help the woman were taken to hospital suffering from shock.

Police, for the moment, aren't sure how the suspect and victim know each other.
