Changes may be coming to Montreal radio landscape

Bell has made some announcements concerning it's deal to aquire Astral, the parent company of CJAD.

It has announced that pending regulatory approval, it is converting the English all-sports station TSN Radio 990 into RDS Radio 990, making it a French all-sports station.

Bell says that would mean the Montreal Canadiens broadcasts would return to CJAD.

The announcements are conditional on approval by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.

A CRTC decision isn't expected until sometime early next year.

It's very unfortunate to lose English Sports Talk Radio in Montreal. Thanks Bell! See ya Fibe! Hello Videotron.

Couldn't be happier about this decision. The HABS belong on CJAD... TSN990 has a few good hosts, but the talent pool is very shallow...

@Eric Have you ever listened to the TEAM 990? they actually talk about sports! not to take any thing away from Chantal Desjardins as the sports person but I think that CJAD's talent pool is empty. I am sorry I have to very much disagree with you on this one.

This is totally absurd, Does everything that does not cater to the Francophone majority in this province have to be eradicated? Will we have to take to the streets like the students to ensure some cultural diversity on our airwaves? It's bad enough that I have to pay extra to receive TSN HD while in the rest of the country it is included with the standard definition TSN station. Now a radio station is going to be taken off the air, not because it is not profitable, not because it does not have a solid base of listeners, no - it's being taken off the air because it broadcasts in the forbidden language here in Quebec, English.

    This is wrong!
