Celebrity chef buying into Montreal restaurant
First it was Gordon Ramsey, now celebrity chef Jamie Oliver is buying into a new Montreal restaurant.
The restaurant will be a British-style pub called the "Maison Publique". It will open on the Plateau in September.
Oliver is teaming up with Montreal's acclaimed chef Derek Dammann for the venture.
But if you were hoping to swing by the restaurant once it's open to catch a glimpse of the celebrity chef or try his food, it's unlikely that will happen.
CJAD's host of Dinner Rush and Gazette food critic Leslie Chesterman says Oliver won't be in the kitchen.
"It's not a branded Jamie Oliver restaurant. It's really a partnership and it's his first partnership with anyone in North America."
Chesterman doesn't believe this is the same situation like when Gordon Ramsey teamed up with the people at Laurier BBQ.
"I don't think this will fall apart like Gordon Ramsey," she says. "These are two friends that are teaming up and it is not a branded Jamie Oliver restaurant, it's Derek Dammann's restaurant. His partner is his friend who will come to visit, but will not be there to cook."
The opening should happen sometime in September. Oliver isn't expected to be there for the official opening but is expected to visit the restauarant around the time of the opening.
