Popular West Island obstetrician suspended

A West Island community is outraged.   CJAD has learned one of the few available West Island Obstetricians has been suspended, over a bureaucratic snafu.

The popular doctor got his temporary walking papers several days ago.

Doctor Gilles Mercier working out of the Lakeshore General, OBGYN for decades, was disciplined by the Collège des Medécins for a paperwork problem.  As of Monday he's been suspended for two months.

"For over 42 years, there are generations of people who have been birthed and who are about to deliver under Dr. Mercier, who can't because of this ridiculous punishment." says patient Taedra Harris.

Many patients just like  Harris, say it's not as if there's abundance of doctors, and to relieve a competent, caring one is just plain wrong.

"A lot of us have written letters to the Collège des Medécins to express our outrage in their decision."

I love Dr Mercier and I feel very sad and frustrated concerning this decision it's beyond comprehension .
He is an amazing man and a wonderful doctor, my family owes a lot to him. It would be an honour to help in any way we can to make sure that this doctor gets back the honnor that he deserves.
Women who are scheduled for c-sections this week and likely already stressed are finding out they have to be treated by another Doctor..for PAPERWORK!!!!!
I will always be grateful to this man for safely bringing my kids as well has my grankids into this world and especially for treating my mother as kindly as he did. He is an amazing doctor and does not deserve this punishment.

    Bon courage.
