Students didn't hurt tourism after all
It seems the student protests in Montreal didn't chase tourists away as much as was feared.
According to Tourism Quebec, the number of hotel reservations in June was up by almost 12 per cent, which is the biggest increase for that month in the past decade.
March, April, and May were also positive in terms of hotel bookings with an increase of 3 per cent.
However, Montreal's Hotels' Assocation has its doubts about the numbers provided by Tourism Quebec. For its part, vice-president, William Brown says they noted an increase in June, but a much more modest one, at only 0.5 per cent.
He adds that while June may have been good, hotels suffered in July with reservations down 12 per cent.
