Raccoon rabies vaccination begins in Montreal parks
The Quebec natural resources and wildlife ministry is beginning a three-day campaign today aimed at immunizing wild animals against rabies.
Ministry officials will spend the next three days distributing more than 2500 oral vaccine bait units in parts of nine Montreal parks, including Mount Royal park, where skunks, raccoons and foxes are known to gather.
The bait looks like large olive green ravioli, which contain liquid which is released when the animals bite on them.
Since 2009, no cases of raccoon rabies have been found in Quebec.
