White powder hoax targets two Montreal area politicians

Police are looking for the person or persons behind a hoax targetting a Conservative senator and a Montreal area mayor.

The targets were senator Claude Carignan and Boisbriand mayor Marlene Cordato.

Envelopes containing suspicious white powder were sent to Carignan's St Eustache home and office and to Cordato's home.

No one was hurt, although Carignan's son and a friend were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The envelope sent to the senator's home was addressed to his son.

Carignan is said to be out of the country.

It seems Carignan's son and Cordato's son protested against students who opposed a tuition fee increase.
