The outgoing Charest government has finally committed to compensating the city of Montreal for the extra policing costs associated with last spring's student protests.

The government will soon be handing the city a $15 million cheque, something city officials have been requesting for months.

The decision to compensate the city was arrived at last Wednesday, when the Charest cabinet met for the last time.
