Marois depicted as Hitler on Facebook

Posted By: Laura Casella · 9/13/2012 6:44:00 AM

The photo was posted on Facebook late Tuesday night by MontrealOfficial.ca.

It shows Premier-elect Pauline Marois with a Hitler moustache accompanied by a vulgar caption.

The Sureté du Québec would not confirm if they're investigating the image, but say anything that makes it onto social media isn't going un-noticed.

"What we want everyone to understand," says Martine Asselin of the SQ, "that any offense on social media will be taken seriously, tracked, and investigated."

By Thursday morning, the photo had already racked up more than 1000 comments, 960 likes, and 430 shares.

Many of the comments condemn the posting.

It's unclear who or how the photo was posted on the page, which mostly posts news stories related to Quebec.

The website for the group returns a 404 error page which means the webpage you were trying to load wasn't found.

There are loads of campaign posters still around exactly like this... I see them daily. Why hasn't anyone got upset over that?

Political posters have always been vandalized...NOW all of a sudden it's a problem? give me a break...WHERE IS OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH!????

@nls Is that freedom of speech ?
Does freedom of speech gives the right to say ( or draw ) anything ?
Associating Pauline Marois to Hitler shows a lack of knowledge of history and lack of respect toward the people that voted democratically for her.
Everybody should denonce that, regardless of their political ideas.
I think that the 960 persons that « liked » that picture should read more moderate english or french journalists once awhile.

Oh give me a break. She need to develop thicker skin than that. And if this was so offensive? What about all the pictures of Charest?

@Paul This is simply brillant! Fabulous
The PQ is simply racist to the core so I don't see why this is a big deal.
They are aiming to restrict the Anglais and want to push for a Pure Laine society!

@Paul I think it is getting out of control now that people are being investigated and arrested for for everything they say on facebook , they should leave to facebook to cancel accounts, and let the police do more serious and urgent work, like catching real criminals

Why is this on the news? You can find the same mindless comparison for any political figure, Obama,Harper,The Pope etc. Comparing someone to Hitler does not require any brains, and should be ignored. This should not be taken seriously and will only escalate if the Media make it a big deal. If the French press is outraged then the problem is on their side trying to make this more important than it is.

So what about all those pictures that Amir Khadir had depicting Charest dead? Doesn't that consitute an investigation? What about the picture a PQ candidate posted on FB showing Charest in a guillotine? How about all the pictures the French students used showing Charest with a clown nose? I sense a double standard here. It's okay for the French to do this yet not okay for the English? Interesting.

In my opinion, mme Marois brought this on herself,or better still, her speech writers did.Everything she said during her campaign(concerning language issues),could easily be seen as prejudistic at the very least. It's no brainer that every action warrants a reaction be it either side of Quebec politics. When a leader of a political(any)party incites "darker side of human nature",by making stupid statements during the leadership campaign,it's clear to see just how bad that political party will be when it actually takes over the reigns of power.

PUL-EASE! Every politician has had their picture skewed somehow to make fun of them. Generally whatever it is that they are being made fun of is how the public views them, in this case I'd imagine someone saw her as being Hitler-ish towards the whole language thing.

Having police "Look into this" is a waste of resources! Stuff like this happens across the world to all politicians, why would Marois think she would be any different?

If police look into this then by rights, every kid that has been bullied by someone using an altered picture should be looked into too. She may be a politician but she has the same rights as everyone else and should just take this whole situation with grace and ignore it.

I don't like her or her politics. But I was born during the war in Poland and can't see any connection between her and Hitler. I'm ashamed of this post.

@mikeroza No one is saying there is any connection between Marois and Hitler. I don't think they're distant relatives. Would you still be offended if I drew a caricature of her in a North Korean uniform watching the OLF army march by her grandstand ? I suppose you were one of those who called 9-1-1 to report this ?

@mikeroza I do see a connection. Hitler started like this.

If you cannot stand the heat! Get out of the kitchen! As for the Agricultural Police, there was no threat, continue to hand out tickets, as you do that very well. I found the picture amusing.

It's amazing that in quebec this is really important, while outside in the big world no one really cares. Only time QC hit's the world stage is over asbestos. QC is like the Northern Ireland of Canada, the embarrsing ugly sister, you get the picutre..................PS photo is funny though.

If i was the being compared to Hitler by others i would probably want to take a good long look in the mirror and do some real sole searching. When you represent the type of regime she does it is only to be expected that when you promote the division of people by language alone then you are only a few steps short of joining those who you are depicted as being similar to.

Even their greatest leader went out of his way to state the present path the PQ is on is doomed to failure and he sees the folly of going down the same road again.
Curiously though i did not see anyone leaping to Jean Charest's defense to find who made the Amir Khadir's poster of Jean Charest being killed or the guillotine cartoon saga all equally as tasteless. I see no difference in any of them?.

Freedom of speech is one of the few rights we still have it should not be given up lightly.

Quite frankly I believe what the the picture is trying to explain,is how we in Quebec are being told what to speak in the privacy of our own home!!!!!
Telling our kids that they must speak French during recess!!!!
It is enough with this crap' she is totally out of line and quite frankly I to see pauline as a terrible evil person she will do no gOod for anyone here in Quebec not for the French, not the English or any immigrant.
If quebec should ever separate they will suffer a great loss in many ways!!! This language issue has been going on since I have been 2, can we please stop this nonsense and start dealing with matters that are important, gee lets see economy, is a good place to start!!!!!!!!!
