To name or not to name in colonoscopy recall

The doctor who performed those botched colonoscopies at the Lakeshore General Hospital is still allowed to practice, but is not allowed to perform colonoscopies anymore.

College Secretary Dr. Yves Robert defended the hospital's decision not to name the doctor.

In a blog, he said such organizations are not allowed to name names since the adoption of laws about access to information and other privacy laws.

Robert adds that the hospital acted correctly by puttng in place the re-screening process and transmitting the information to the college.

But Robert says the college itself is being discreet because the doctor in question has promised to stick to certain practices he can still perform but that don't include colonoscopies. He hasn't performed any since June, when the college was informed about the incident.

Nearly 700 patients who had colonoscopies done at the Lakeshore by this doctor between 2009 and 2012 may have to have them redone because of inconsistencies in the sceenings.
