Misleading advertising: competition bureau sues wireless companies

Posted By: Canadian Press · 9/14/2012 12:15:00 PM

The Competition Bureau is suing Canada's three biggest wireless carriers and an industry association.

It's seeking a total of $31 million in customer refunds and administrative penalties for allegedly misleading advertising.

The bureau says it's taking legal action after a five-month investigation into the companies' advertising of premium texting services. Its allegations have yet to be tested by a court or tribunal.

The federal agency is seeking $10 million each from Bell, Telus and Rogers, the country's three-largest wireless carriers.

It's also seeking $1 million from the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, the industry's main lobby group.

It's about time someone did something against these Giants.
Such high user charges are unbelievable. besides the run around they give you when you get on the phone with them for contact issues. I specially have beef with ROGERS.
