A 3-year-old boy suffered serious injuries after he was hit by a city of Laval truck.

The accident happened on Park Avenue in the St. Vincent de Paul district at 10:45 this morning.

Police say the youngster was about to cross a street with his mother, hand-in-hand, when the boy's cap suddenly flew off in the wind, landing in the middle of the road.

The boy was hit as he was ran to retrieve it.

He remains in hospital, in stable condition, having suffered fractures.

Police say the truck driver was travelling at normal speed. He also had to be treated for shock.
