Another expansion of ground beef recall
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has once again expanded its ground beef recall.
The initial recall warning was issued Sunday about beef products distributed by XL foods, because of fears the beef may be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. The recall was nationwide, and the announcement Sunday affected beef sold under the Kirkland Signature brand, which is carried by Costco stores across Canada.
On Tuesday, the list was expanded to include more stores across the country, including Super C, Metro, and Entrepot de Viandes in Quebec.
Today, two more Quebec outlets are being affected, Presto and Club l'Entrepot.
Consumers who bought ground beef from any of these stores recently are being urged to contact the stores.
Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled, but the Agency says consuming food contaminated with the bacteria can cause serious or potentially life-threatening illnesses.
In the worst cases, severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, seizures or strokes may occur.
So far, though, there have been no reports of illnesses connected to the recalled meat.
