Lisée defends CJAD decision
Minister for anglophone relations, Jean-Francois Lisée, says he always supports the freedom of the press. Always.
"I am not shocked," he told reporters this morning when he stepped out of his first Parti Quebecois cabinet meeting.
CJAD has drawn controversy over its decision to broadcast selected extracts of a Richard Henry Bain interview.
In fact, this morning Public Security minister Stephane Bergeron called the matter "worrying" and said he wanted to examine whether people like Bain should have the freedom to speak or be broadcast.
"Did the problem come from CJAD or the fact that we permitted access to this prisoner?" Bergeron said, vowing to look into the matter.
But, Lisée says he has faith in the media to examine its own ethical questions. "Each person has their own sensibilities," he says about the apparent contradiction with the public security minister.
