Lisée defends CJAD decision

Minister for anglophone relations, Jean-Francois Lisée, says he always supports the freedom of the press. Always.

"I am not shocked," he told reporters this morning when he stepped out of his first Parti Quebecois cabinet meeting.

CJAD has drawn controversy over its decision to broadcast selected extracts of a Richard Henry Bain interview.

In fact, this morning Public Security minister Stephane Bergeron called the matter "worrying" and said he wanted to examine whether people like Bain should have the freedom to speak or be broadcast.

"Did the problem come from CJAD or the fact that we permitted access to this prisoner?" Bergeron said, vowing to look into the matter.

But, Lisée says he has faith in the media to examine its own ethical questions. "Each person has their own sensibilities," he says about the apparent contradiction with the public security minister.

    Regarding CJAD running this story...

It turns out, there was nothing to the story which merited the audio being broadcast.

    Clearly sensationalism at CJAD.

I salute CJAD for airing parts of the conversation and Trudy sounded quite professional on her questions that were asked. It was not CJAD's fault that Bain had access to a phone, and CJAD is a NEWS outlet, any media would do the exact same thing if Bain called them.

The pieces that were aired this morning on Andrew Carter's show does not sounds like it would help or hinder his trial but of course CJAD would report on it - it's two stories in one - an exclusive and a how-could-he-have-access-to-a-phone story

(it just sounds like the other people are making fuss because THEY weren't called)

CJAD Should be fined !!!! for giving a voice to an alleged murderer.

CJAD is now as dirty as Fox News ...

Americans are slowly transferring there poor ethical ways to ROC

Good Thing Quebec is shielded by our Language and culture.
