Bacon shortage hogwash
Quebec bacon lovers won't be deprived of one of their favourite weekend indulgences in spite of warnings from Britain's National Pig Association.
Yesterday the trade group said a world shortage of pork and bacon "is now unavoidable."
But in Canada, that's not the case.
Marie-Christine Ethier of Quebec's pork producers says here in the province, there's a glut.
"Currently there are no shortages expected in the North American market. We are actually overstocked, because there was a liquidation of livestock in recent months, because of the high price of grain."
Bad news is that pork prices may actually rise by as much as 10 percent around this time next year, depending on world markets.
