Show-and-tell Day at the Charbonneau Commission
Montreal police officer Eric Vecchio showed the Charbonneau Commission video that was taken by hidden RCMP cameras at the Cosenza Social Club between 2002 and 2006. The Cosenza is a reputed Rizzuto clan hangout that appeared to double as a mafia bank.
The videos show men counting money and stuffing wads of cash into their socks. The men on the receiving end are Rizzuto clan bosses, including the late Nicolo Rizzuto senior. Among the men delivering the cash are Nicolo Milioto, specialized in building sidewalks in the Montreal area, and Fransesco Catania, of F. Catania Construction.
The Commission was also shown a photograph believed to have been snapped in a conference room of F. Catania Construction. On the far wall of the conference room there can be seen a board showing construction plans for Autoroute 30, and, near the board, sitting at the head of the conference table, is none other than Rizzuto clan boss Nicolo Rizzuto Senior.
There's also video of a 2005 social gathering at the Cosenza: a mafia office Christmas party hosted by the likes of Rizzuto bosses Nicolo Rizzuto and Paolo Renda. Among the guests are Rick Andreoli, of Canbec Construction, which does municipal snow-clearing, Nicolo Milioto, president of Mivela Construction, specialized in building sidwewalks, and Paolo Catania, of Catcan Construction, a builder of road and water infrastructure. All three companies are active in the city of Montreal and surrounding municipalities.
