Montreal man receives kidney transplant thanks not to his son, but national program

A Saint Leonard man received a kidney transplant, but his son, who donated his kidney, didn't donate it to him.

73-year old Cosmo Fazioli, who was on dialysis for four years, benefitted from another donation as part of the Living Donor Paired Exchange Kidney Registry.

The progran allows a person who needs a kidney and a relative who's willing to donate, but who's not a match, to register and then matches are made with other pairs.

His son Domenic, a reporter with Global TV in Montreal, donated his kidney to someone in Ottawa.

The registry went national in 2010 after a one-year pilot project.
