Cops assigned to monitor Cabot Square because of crime
Police officers are being assigned to keep a close eye on Cabot Square across from the old Forum as a result of crime in the area.
Authorities say the complaints come from different sources.
"Various citizens from the people that work in the sector, from community organizartions, social workers and other police officers", says agent Adalbert Pimentel from station 12 in Westmount.
He goes on to say the number of incidents last month was higher than usual and they include armed assaults.
"The most commons infractions we have would be disturbing the peace, consuming alcohol beverages, obstruction of justice. It would be to participate in, uh, a fight", adds Pimentel.
A 5-person team has been assigned to the area, which includes four officers and a supervisor.
They are working with special units that deal with the homeless and those that have mental health issues.
