SQ officer dead after being struck by car

A 33 year old Sûreté du Québec police officer has died of injuries he sustained while on patrol in Bois-des-Filion Saturday afternoon.

Donovan Lagrange was struck and killed by a motorist on the Autoroute 640 as he approached a vehicle that he had pulled over for speeding.

The driver may face charges.

In August, Quebec’s “Move Over” law came into effect requiring motorists to change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles are stopped.

Lagrange is the second police officer to be killed in the line of duty in the past two weeks.

Last month a Sûreté du Québec police officer was killed when she lost control of her patrol car while responding to an emergency near Rawdon.

Condolences to the family of the police officer. There is a message here for anyone having to stop on the side of the highway. Do not rely on the "Move Over Law". If you have to get out of your car, check for approaching traffic in your side view mirroir. Only disembark when there is no approaching traffic and then get as far away from the traffic lane as possible. Check to make sure there is no approaching traffic before you get back into your vehicle. Motorists don't always obey the laws and a driver can lose control of his vehicle at any time.

@Terry My condolences to the family.
But I feel this law has not been poorly advertised.. A little on T.V. & newspapers but what about on large sign boards on high way, roads, etc.

I think the 'speeding' car and ALL speeding cars should be sent a HUGE ticket by Mail and Officers should NOT get out of their cars EVER..........
