Longueuil standoff over; one man arrested

A four-hour standoff outside a Longueuil home on Friday ended with one man under arrest, and another man sent to hospital.

When police, acting on a 9-1-1 call, arrived at the home on 19 Martin St. in the Old Longueuil borough, they found two men. One of them was a man in his 40s, who apparently had been injured after being struck in the head with a heavy object. The other man, a 20-year-old, was questioned by police as a witness, and then taken into custody as a suspect.

The older man is a resident of the home, and was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Longueuil police set up a wide security perimeter, evacuating homes and a nearby daycare, thinking there may be one or more armed men inside. In the end, the was no one else on site, but a weapon was recovered.

Police aren't saying for sure if the incident had anything to do with a home invasion, or anything else. They'll only say an investigation is underway to determine that, as well as to figure out what the relationship was between the two men involved, if any.
