A 23-year old man has been sentenced at the Longueuil courthouse for repeatedly torturing a two-year old toddler and his mother.

Maxime Daigneault-Martel has been sentenced to seven years behind bars for the three-month torture.

It all began with elbow shots to the boy as well as threats.

Among other things, the woman was strangled and burned.

Daigneault-Martel pleaded guilty to 15 charges in April.

He expressed no motion as the sentence was handed down Friday.

A 23 year old US mother received a sentence of 99 years for torturing her 2 year old daughter while a 23 year old Canadian man received a 7 year sentence for torturing a 2 year old boy AND his mother over 3 months ... something is definitely wrong somewhere. She will likely never see the light of day again and he will most likely be out within a year or 2!!

Seven years for such a heinous crime against a defenseless child!!! He is sentenced to 7 years and will likely be out after serving a third of his sentence. That means that this psychopath may be walking the streets again and pairing up with another dependent woman with child after just 28 months. I do not believe that justice has been properly served or that there has been enough done to ensure that the public at large is being adequately protected from such monsters. The kind of psychological make-up this man is demonstrating does not simply correct itself by the time he has reached adulthood. We are looking at engrained personality traits that will continue to pose a future danger well after he is released.
