A Canadian border guard has been shot at a crossing in Surrey, B-C, south of Vancouver, and R-C-M-P say the assailant is dead after apparently shooting himself.

The Mounties say the female guard was shot in the neck while in her booth and was alive when she was taken to hospital.

There is no update on her condition.

Police are still trying to piece together what happened, and are not speculating on a motive for the shooting.
